CUSTOMER SERVICE INTERRUPTION
We are upgrading our customer service computer system next weekend, which will require us to shut it down from Thursday through next Sunday. During that time, we won’t be able to process payments, delivery changes, vacation stops, or subscription starts or stops, either over the phone or on the website.
If you need to complete any of those transactions this week, please do so by noon Wednesday. We expect to be fully functional again May 1.
We still will be able to take calls about missed deliveries. If you have delivery trouble this week, please call 1-800-289-8711.

FREE EDITION
We’re also allowing free viewing of our online electronic edition next weekend. The eEdition is different from thenewstribune.com. The eEdition is a reproduction of the print paper online, which makes it a more comfortable read for some people. You can click on stories to read them, enlarge the type and turn from page to page. You also can search the edition to find topics that interest you.
The eEdition is a free add-on to weekend and daily subscriptions and costs $5.95 a month for nonsubscribers. To try it out, go to thenewstribune.com and click on the “Subscribe” button at the top of the page.

Here’s your chance to tell us what you think about items you read in The News Tribune and at thenewstribune.com. Join our online reader panel.
Whether you read us every day or only every now and then, you can sign up to receive email surveys about our stories and advertisements. About once a week, you’ll get an email inviting you to take a survey. You’ll have a couple of days to respond. Each survey takes about five minutes to complete. You can opt out of the panel at any time.
You aren’t required to answer every survey, but each time you do you’re entered into a drawing for a monthly $100 prize. We’ve contracted with a company called Research and Analysis of Media to manage the process for us.
When you open a survey, you’ll see a page from a recent edition of The News Tribune or a screen shot from our website. You’ll be directed to a particular article or ad and asked if you saw it, how closely you read it and whether you liked it. We also may ask whether you found it interesting, important, objective or entertaining. And you’ll have space in which to write us a note about the piece.
Why are we doing it? So we can learn what’s working or not working for readers and improve your hometown newspaper and website.

JOURNALISM AWARDS
We’re pleased to announce the following TNT journalism award winners:
• Business columnist Bill Virgin was named one of the top three columnists in the nation among daily newspapers of our size by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.
• Graphic artist Jessica Randklev won third place in the informational graphic category of the Best of the West competition. This contest pits us against newspapers of all sizes west of the Mississippi. “Rainier in Motion” was a full-page graphic that looked at how Mount Rainier’s glaciers are receding and exposing rock and sediment that then are pushed downstream, filling creeks and riverbeds.
• Features reporter Debby Abe won five Washington Press Association awards for her SoundLife cover stories. She won for food stories about filberts and lettuce, for profiles of a police chaplain and KING 5 reporter Jesse Jones, and for her package on African American genealogy.
