The Boeing Co. on Tuesday delivered the first of a half dozen C-17 airlifters to the United Arab Emirates Air Force.
The company will deliver three more C-17s to the UAE this year and two more in 2012. The four-engine aircraft are built in Boeing’s Long Beach, Calif., plant.
Boeing has built 231 C-17s. The U.S. Air Force has 210, including a group based at Pierce County’s Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
The company has sold C-17s to the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Qatar and a group of European countries. India is reportedly interested in buying 10.
