A hearing has been postponed on retired Pierce County Sheriff Mark French’s request to have a child pornography conviction erased from his record.
French’s attorney had been scheduled to go to court Friday to ask Superior Court Judge Bryan Chushcoff to vacate French’s 2004 conviction on a single felony count of possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
French, who retired as sheriff in 2000, also wants his right to possess firearms restored.
The hearing has been postponed until July 8, according to court records.
French pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 days of electronic home monitoring, one year’s probation, and fines and court costs after Tacoma police found more than 100 images of child pornography on his laptop computer during a 2003 raid of his house boat.
His attorney, Don Winskill, wrote in court pleadings that French qualifies for a vacation of his conviction because he has satisfied the terms of his sentence and remained crime-free since his conviction.
