Tacoma leaders hope the city’s comprehensive gang assessment will identify:
• Indicators that predict whether youths will get involved in a gang.
• Potential factors contributing to gang problems.
• Populations to target with prevention, intervention and suppression efforts.
• The most serious and prevalent gang-related problems, where they exist and what communities are affected.
• Issues that must be addressed to see a long-term impact on the problem.
• Current efforts from government, community groups, nonprofit organizations, private groups and others that address gangs and gang-involved youth.
• Local community groups, organizations, nonprofits and other organizations that can help attract additional expertise, support or funding for the gang project.
