You probably wouldn't want this job

Well, at least someone’s hiring.

Well, at least someone’s hiring.

Still, we’re not sure Tacoma Public Schools should be too excited about any applicant who isn’t scared away by these details in the district’s job description for a new superintendent.

“CONDITIONS: Experiences frequent interruptions and inflexible deadlines; required to deal with shifting and often conflicting priorities; required to work extended hours; required to deal with angry and distraught people; required to travel to district and community sites; occasionally required to travel out of town; required to attend evening and weekend meetings or activities; required to deal with sensitive and/or controversial matters; may be exposed to public controversy.”

That’s quite a list. Over here on State Street, we just want a schools chief who returns our calls.

The help-wanted ads include a few other high-profile postings. Puyallup schools are holding tryouts for a new Apostle, and Tacoma thinks it can attract someone to take a job from a City Council that hired and praised and then criticized and fired the last city manager.

Knowing their judgment isn’t considered the best in town right now, council members have asked residents to provide guidance on what they want in a new CM.

“Tacoma is a diverse community, and we want the process to be open and inclusive,” said Mayor Marilyn Strickland. “We look forward to hearing what skills and attributes the community would like to see in the next city manager.”

We checked, and there’s no requirement that applicants understand the definition of a lie. Anyway, go ahead, tell them what you think at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/citymanagersearch.

That’s right. Tacoma has placed its future in the hands of Survey Monkey.

You let Vicci Martinez down, letting her finish second to whatever the heck his name is on “The Voice.” Then your lethargy caused Tacoma to lose out to Grand Rapids in that top 10 places to live contest.

Yes, the one in Michigan.

Now, The Volcano entertainment tabloid is trying to drum up some support for a guy who isn’t from Tacoma and who doesn’t live in Tacoma but hung his baseball hat here for a few years, playing guitar at joints including Mocha Moo, Shakabrah Java, Rhapsody in Bloom and Panamonica’s.

Joshua Adams (he goes by Joshua A) is one of 10 finalists for the original theme song for Headline News’ “Morning Express with Robin Meade.” We figure if we help him win, he’ll feel obligated to write that original music for The Nose that could put us in the same league as Robin Meade. Vote here: www.cnn.com/riseandshine.

And while you’re at it, you can vote up to 10 times for local artist-teacher-handyman Lawrence Huffines for HGTV’s All American Handyman. Right now he’s tied for second to some guy who looks like Rick Steves, so that’s gonna be a problem if he wins ’cause you don’t want someone like that around power tools.

Help out here: www.hgtv.com/all-american-handyman/show/index.html.

If you think we’re obsessed with this voting thing, you’re right. In this economy, our readers need all the work they can get.

The kiddie corps that is the Seattle Mariners just added a new name – pitcher Chance Ruffin, who came over as the player to be named later in the deal that sent Doug Fister to Detroit.

That news is enough of a hook for this retelling of one of ESPN studio host Chris Berman’s very first player nicknames. Chance’s father was pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies, and Berman introduced him as Bruce “Two Minutes For” Ruffin.

Come on, Tacoma. Have you been without a hockey team for so long you don’t get that?
