Members of the Tacoma Education Association, which represents teachers and other employees in Tacoma Public Schools, plan to gather Monday afternoon to hear an update on the state of contract talks between the union and the school district.
Negotiators took today off but talks are expected to continue Monday.
The union will also host a community forum to talk about the school districts budget. Its set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Jason Lee Middle School. The public is invited.
Teachers and the school district have not yet reached agreement on how the district should deal with a cut in state funding for teacher salaries. The union is also pushing back against a district proposal to increase class size to help save money.
Teachers are scheduled to meet again Wednesday, one day before school is scheduled to start in Tacoma.
