Tacoma church will hold back-to-school event

Trinity Presbyterian Church is hosting a Back To School Night during which school supplies and backpacks will be given to students who attend school in the Bryant neighborhood.

Trinity Presbyterian Church is hosting a Back To School Night during which school supplies and backpacks will be given to students who attend school in the Bryant neighborhood.

It’s scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 1615 Sixth Ave.

Free clothing will be available at the church’s clothing bank, and school physical exams will be conducted at the Trinity Medical Clinic. Free food will be served.

Sponsoring partners include the church, Tacoma Urban League and Pinnacle Lumber. For more information contact Carmetrus Parker at 253-272-8819, Ext. 105.

Open house at Bellingham Children's Co-op Preschool is Feb. 25

BELLINGHAM - Children's Co-op Preschool will hold an open house for prospective families from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 25. Parents and kids can tour the school, meet teachers and learn about programs the school offers.

Kids will be registered for the 2012-13 school year on a first-come, first-served basis.

The school is affiliated with Whatcom Community College's Early Childhood Program. It's located at St. James Presbyterian Church, 910 14th St., and offers programs twice a week for kids as young as 2 years old through pre-kindergarten.

Kennewick church seeks living-room feel

How do you give a gymnasium a living room feel? That is the question members from Living Room Church in Kennewick are working to answer as they convert a former school gymnasium into their new worship space.

The nondenominational church bought the former Bethlehem Lutheran School to accommodate its growing congregation of more than 700 worshippers, and is in the process of renovating and converting the school's three buildings for new uses by the church, said project manager Jim Aust.

An old residential building will become church offices and another building on the property will house small classrooms for youth groups and church activities.
