Olympia Fire Department responded shortly after midnight Tuesday to a structure fire at El Sarape II, in the 1200 block of Cooper Point Road S.W., after callers to 911 reported seeing fire on the roof.
Olympia firefighters who arrived on the scene reported seeing fire from the roof and called a second alarm. The fire appeared to have started in the kitchen area, although the restaurant was closed when the fire broke out.
Fire response included four Olympia Engine Companies, one ladder company, two medic units, and a command unit. Thurston County Fire Districts 3, 8, 9 and 13, along with an engine from Tumwater also responded.
There were no injuries reported, but the inside of the restaurant sustained damage estimated at around $500,000 from fire, smoke and water. The bridal store next door suffered minor smoke damage, but the amount has not been determined.
