A Lakewood man suspected of robbing a credit union branch Monday still had the stolen loot in his pants when he was arrested later in the day.

Pierce County prosecutors charged Thomas Charles Miller Jr., 28, on Tuesday with one count of first-degree robbery. He was ordered held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Charging documents provide the following information.

A man walked into Sound Credit Union, 7717 Bridgeport Way W., in Lakewood just after 10:20 a.m. Monday and demanded money from three tellers. The tellers put an undisclosed amount of cash into a plastic bag.

At one point, the robber told the tellers to, “Hurry up, or I will shoot you.”

Investigators identified Miller as a suspect in the robbery based on surveillance photos from the credit union. They contacted him later Monday.

Miller said he was addicted to heroin and admitted to robbing the credit union.

“The defendant said he was sorry for scaring the tellers and he was not a very good thief,” charging documents said.
