St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Rams offered injury updates Monday on a slew of players who walked away with various issues from their season-opening 31-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The most serious injury occurred to cornerback Ron Bartell, who departed the game in the early stages of the fourth quarter after colliding with a teammate with what was called a stinger. However, following an MRI and CT scan, the problem was revealed to be a neck fracture -- which could be a season-ending situation.
Quarterback Sam Bradford left with about eight minutes to play, favoring his right hand after completing a 31-yard pass to Brandon Gibson. According to the Rams' Twitter feed on Sunday, an X-ray was negative.
The club received good news on that front a day later, as the Oklahoma product was revealed to have suffered nothing more than a bruised right index finger. Head coach Steve Spagnuolo said he expects their second-year signal caller to be ready for next Monday's tilt against the Giants.
In addition, running back Steven Jackson (quadriceps) and wide receiver Danny Amendola (dislocated left elbow) also departed the contest.
Jackson departed in the first quarter. He ran for a 47-yard touchdown, but touched the ball only once more. The 28-year-old was afflicted with a strained quad in his right leg, and Spagnuolo indicated he will miss the next game and be pronounced day-to-day from there.
Amendola, the Rams' leading receiver last year, suffered his injury early in the fourth quarter on a six-yard reception. An MRI taken on Monday confirmed the original diagnosis, but Spagnuolo said he believed surgery was not likely.
Additionally, Rams tackle Jason Smith suffered an apparent ankle injury. The club initially believed the injury to be a high ankle sprain, but upon further evaluation it was revealed to be a regular sprain. He was pronounced day-to- day.
Cornerback Bradley Fletcher was stricken with a sprained toe, and he was listed as day-to-day, while defensive end C.J. Ah You underwent an MRI on his wrist whose results were inconclusive.
