A two-story MultiCare Health Systems office building near Wright Park was evacuated Monday afternoon because of a gas leak at an outdoor pipe next to the building.

Firefighters evacuated 40 or so employees about 2:30 p.m. while Puget Sound Energy crews fixed the leak. Workers were allowed back inside the building at 409 S. J St. about 3 p.m., MultiCare spokesman Cole Cosgrove said.

No patient care areas were affected.
