SPSL SOUTH
No. 9 Federal Way (2-0 league, 2-0 overall) at Curtis (2-0, 2-0), 7 tonight
The lowdown: The past three seasons, the path to the SPSL South title has gone through University Place. Curtis, the three-time defending league champion, puts on the line its 25-game league winning streak. The Vikings struggled against Spanaway Lake last week, scoring two fourth-quarter touchdowns in a 14-0 victory. Federal Way has started slowly in its first two games, but the Eagles have ramped up production after the first quarter, outscoring opponents 61-13 after the opening period. Both teams rely on the run. Curtis pounded out 388 yards on the ground in a Week 1 win over Rogers and the Eagles shredded Puyallup for 313 rushing yards last week.
TNT pick: Federal Way 27, Curtis 20
NARROWS LEAGUE 4A
South Kitsap (2-0 overall, 0-0 league) vs. Olympia (2-0, 0-0)
The lowdown: This is the 4A Narrows League opener for both teams, and they come into tonight’s game with two of the five 2-0 records among the league’s teams. Olympia pulled out a 10-7 win over Capital in last week’s Spaghetti Bowl despite struggling in the running game. Casey Bond, who started in place of the injured Spenser Killman, had a hard-earned 70 yards rushing and scored the team’s only touchdown. Senior quarterback Trevor Houser has carried the Bears’ offense, throwing for 349 yards through two games. South Kitsap features a powerful running game that came to life in a 42-35 win over Tahoma last week, when Adam Gascoyne (126 yards) and Dominic Boddie (119) combined for six rushing touchdowns.
TNT pick: Olympia 24, South Kitsap 17
SPSL 2A
Washington (1-1 overall) at Eatonville (1-1), 7 tonight
Lowdown: If last fall’s late-season dance with tiebreakers and possible mini-playoffs was any indication, victories will be extra important in the topsy-turvy SPSL 2A. The Patriots, regarded by many in the preseason as the league’s top team, will take on an Eatonville squad that’s stingy in the points-allowed department. The Cruisers had trouble stopping the pass in a 13-12 loss to Auburn Mountainview last week, giving up 236 yards through the air. That could be trouble against the Patriots, who have perhaps the best receiver in the league in Victor Gamboa. He hauled in five catches for 142 yards and two TDs in a 34-0 rout of North Mason last week. Eatonville must contain running back Ramsey Davis, who has rushed for 375 yards and five TDs this season.
TNT pick: Washington 21, Eatonville 19
