Tacoma residents are being asked to take part in a survey to gauge perceptions about gang activity in the city. The survey is part of the citys ongoing comprehensive gang assessment, which is scheduled to be done by the end of the year.
The City Council authorized the assessment, the first of its kind in Tacoma, last year and set aside $50,000 to study the citys law enforcement, intervention and prevention efforts.
The assessment began in June and involves a host of city departments, criminal justice agencies, schools, social service organizations, youths and gang members.
Assessors want to hear from people who live or work in Tacoma about the gang issues they see.
Citizens can fill out the survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/TGA_Residents. They also can request a copy by visiting the citys Human Rights and Human Services Department at 747 Market St., Room 836, or by calling 253-591-5155.
Surveys must be completed by Oct. 3.
At the end of the assessment, city leaders want to have recommendations for policy changes or new programs addressing gang problems.
