Silver screen icon and Broadway star Julie Andrews will be a guest at October’s Gig Harbor Film Festival on Oct. 15.
From “Mary Poppins” to “The Sound of Music” to “Victor Victoria” to “The Princess Diaries,” Andrews is known worldwide and to a multi-generational audience.
Her 60-year-plus film career includes singing, acting and more recently, voice-over work for animated films ("Shrek," “Despicable Me”).
Andrews will receive the 4-year-old festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of her late husband, film director Blake Edwards.
The festival has given only one such award before, to “Pink Panther” producer and Gig Harbor resident David DePatie, who created the animated panther for Edwards.
The Oct. 15 event will take place at 6 p.m. at Galaxy Theatre, Uptown, Gig Harbor. Andrews will answer questions from the audience and show “Victor Victoria” – the Edwards-directed film about a woman pretending to be a man impersonating a woman.
DePatie will present the award to Andrews at the event.
“She’s just a genuine person,” said Marty Thacker, executive director of the film festival. “She’s really brought magic to films and theaters.”
Tickets are $75 and can be bought through the film festival’s website, www.gig gigharborfilmfestival.org, or by calling call 253-851-3456. The event includes appetizers and a no-host bar.
The festival, featuring more than 65 films, will run from Oct. 14-16.
