4:50 PM UPDATE:
Tacoma Public Schools officials confirmed this afternoon the calendar for makeup classroom days for the just-ended eight-day teachers strike.
The district and the union agreed to add nine full days to the calendar and remove one scheduled half day this fall. (Half days count as full days on the academic calendar.)
The nine additional school days are:
* Dec. 19 and 20. That means the Christmas break will be shortened by two days.
* The snow makeup days of Feb. 17 and May 25. That means there is no slack left in the calendar in case of inclement weather.
* Five days will be tacked on at the end of the school year. The last day of school will be June 19 possibly later if the district has to cancel classes because of snow or other reasons. June 13, which is now a school day, had been on the calendar as a snow makeup day.
The half-day of school that has been converted to a full day off is Nov. 23. That means families and school staff will have a five-day Thanksgiving weekend this year.
