A football player at Division II Central State University of Wilberforce, Ohio, died after being shot at a Dayton, Ohio, nightclub, and an arrest warrant has been issued for the man suspected of shooting into the club, killing the player and wounding another student, authorities said Friday.

Kordero Hunter, 21, of South Holland, Ill., in suburban Chicago, died at a hospital Friday morning of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, said Ken Betz, director of the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office in Dayton, in southwest Ohio.

Hunter and a number of other CSU students at the club were innocent bystanders, Dayton police Sgt. Moises Perez said.

“The club was very crowded, and when an argument broke out inside, the club owner broke it up and started escorting some of the people outside,” Perez said. “The owner then saw a woman passing a gun to the shooter, who was outside, and he started shooting into the bar.”

Hunter was shot, and another male student was shot in the neck.

That student was expected to be released from a hospital, Perez said.

Two women were treated for injuries and released from a hospital. One woman was struck in the arm by flying glass and the other was trampled in the panic after the shooting, Perez said.

An arrest warrant was issued for 30-year-old Jason Dashaun Shern, and police were searching for him Friday.

Officials at CSU issued a statement saying that the campus community is mourning the loss of Hunter.

“Mr. Hunter was an energetic and hard-working student,” Marauders coach E.J. Junior said in the statement. “Kordero had a strong desire and was an up-and-coming leader on the team.”

Junior was a linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks from 1992-93.

Former Rogers High, Washington State and Seahawks star Chad Eaton is the Marauders’ defensive line coach.

CSU’s athletic director is Hall of Fame tight end Kellen Winslow.

Hunter, a sophomore defensive back, had been scheduled to play in today’s game between the Marauders and the Dayton Flyers, and team members said they would play the game in his honor, CSU spokeswoman Fran Robinson said.
