The nationwide roundup of criminal immigrants resulted in the arrest of 36 people in Washington state, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Seattle.
The majority of those arrests occurred in the Seattle area, where 15 convicted criminal immigrants were arrested, according to ICE. The remaining arrests occurred throughout the state, with multiple arrests in Yakima and Walla Walla.
“Because of the hard work and focus of ICE officers and agents in Washington tracking down at-large criminal aliens and fugitives, there are 36 fewer criminal aliens in our neighborhoods across the state,” said Nathalie Asher, field office director of ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Seattle, in a news release.
Of the 2,901 people arrested nationwide, 42 were gang members and 151 were convicted sex offenders, ICE said.
Among those arrested in Seattle was Jose David Orellana-Lemus, 30, a national of El Salvador and an MS-13 gang member who was convicted of third-degree assault in 2001, according to ICE.
