People looking for a watery adventure but who don’t have equipment, experience or a friend to go with, can join Metro Parks Tacoma on three kayak trips this month.
The paddles are for adults at all ability and experience levels.
Boston Harbor trip: Oct. 15. Olympia’s Boston Harbor is close to civilization, but also far away. From 10 a.m.-2 pm, kayakers can enjoy time on Puget Sound and get away from life’s hustle and bustle. Beginners age 18 and up are welcome. All equipment and instruction are provided. Cost is $65 for Tacoma residents, $70 for nonresidents.
Paddle and Coffee: Oct. 21. Here is a chance to get an early start on the weekend with a leisurely Friday paddle from 8-10 a.m. The trip begins along the Thea Foss Waterway and heads into Commencement Bay. Participants will be able to take in the view of the city skyline, the Port of Tacoma, Thea Foss marinas and Mount Rainier while enjoying the calm morning water. This trip is for adults age 21 and over. Beginners are welcome. Cost is $50 for Tacoma residents and $55 for nonresidents.
Blake Island trip: Oct. 23. From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. participants can enjoy a trip to Blake Island State Park, a marine state park only accessible by boat. Participants will spend some time on the island for lunch before paddling back. The trip starts and ends at the Southworth Ferry dock. Beginners age 21 and up are welcome. All equipment and instruction are provided. Cost is $65 for Tacoma residents and $70 for nonresidents.
