A Buckley man pleaded not guilty Friday to charges he caused the death of a teenage passenger in an August car wreck on a road in Buckley and then fled the scene.
Pierce County prosecutors charged Ryan R. Bogue, 18, with vehicular homicide and failure to remain at the scene of a deadly accident.
During his arraignment Friday, Bogue was ordered held in the Pierce County Jail on $100,000 bail. If released, he’s been ordered to be on electronic home monitoring.
Prosecutors allege Bogue was speeding east on 112th Street East shortly after 1 a.m. Aug. 3 with Traevon Norton, 17, along as a passenger. The car slid off the road in the 29000 block and hit a power pole.
Bogue left the scene. Norton was thrown from the car and died of his injuries minutes later. Officers found Bogue at a hospital in Enumclaw after his sister called 911, court documents state.
Bogue told investigators he’d had three beers before the accident. He said he crashed his car when he tried to avoid deer in the roadway, court documents state.
Blood tests revealed alcohol, THC and substances from prescription depressants in Bogue’s system.
