Senior Noah Anderson ran wild, while sophomore quarterback Derrick Becker was nearly perfect in the first half, but it was the Capital defense that might have been the most impressive.
Anderson rushed for a career-high 204 yards, and Becker ran for a score and threw four more as the Cougars notched their third consecutive victory by thumping visiting Foss, 43-0, in a Narrows League 3A matchup Friday at Ingersoll Stadium.
“Coming in, our goal was to have a complete effort,” Capital coach J.D. Johnson said. “Tonight from offense to defense to special teams, everything with clicking for us. I was very pleased.”
The Cougars defense registered three sacks, got an interception and fumble recovery from Sam Hollingsworth, and held the Falcons to just 54 total yards in getting their first shutout of season. Foss finished with minus-10 rushing yards on 25 carries.
Offensively the Cougars piled up 411 yards, with Becker completing his first seven passes before finishing 9 of 12 for 141 yards.
“I felt comfortable out there. The game is starting to slow down for me,” Becker said. “It all starts with the line, and they played incredible tonight.”
Three of Becker’s TD strikes were hauled in by Darius Antalan, who also caught a Becker pass for a two-point conversion.
Antalan snagged four balls for 77 yards, while Tad Maiava was the recipient of Becker’s fourth touchdown pass, pulling down a 24-yarder midway through the fourth quarter to produce the final score.
Anderson had long runs of 79, 38 and 30 yards and added a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to power Capital’s run game, which finished with 270 yards.
After starting the year 0-3, Capital evened its mark at 3-3. More important, the Cougars find themselves tied atop the Narrows League 3A with a 2-0 record. The Falcons fell to 0-2 and 1-5.
“We are playing with a lot of confidence right now,” Becker said. “We’re improving every week.”
The Falcons ran 21 first-half plays with 18 going for no gain or a loss as they managed just 31 yards of offense.
