A 55-year-old Lacey woman narrowly escaped injury Tuesday morning after she struck a three-point buck that jumped out onto Interstate 5 while she was headed south near the Sleater-Kinney Road exit, according to Washington State Patrol.
According to State Patrol:
Around 9:40 a.m., the deer ran across the all the northbound lanes of I-5 before he jumped over the jersey barrier into the southbound lanes and was struck. The deer struck the windshield, flipped over the car, went through the back window and landed in the trunk.
The driver was able to get her 2001 Hyundai safely to the right shoulder with the deer still in the vehicle. Troopers responded and had to remove the deer from the car before it was towed away.
The deer was killed in the accident, Trooper Guy Gill said.
The 55-year-old driver was extremely lucky to walk away from with only minor abrasions, reads a news release from the State Patrol.
