With just one week to go in football’s regular season, here are the postseason scenarios in South Sound leagues.
SPSL NORTH
Postseason berths: Four, plus No. 5 seed gets a play-in game.
Clinched: Kentlake, Kentwood, Tahoma and Jefferson
Lowdown: The top four teams will qualify for the Week 10 state play-in round. The fifth-place team will play the SPSL South’s fifth-place team Nov. 2, with the winner advancing to the state play-in round.
Kentlake has locked up the league title and No. 1 seed. Kentwood, Tahoma and Jefferson have secured postseason berths, but their seeding is dependent on Week 9 outcomes. Kentridge and Auburn are alive for a playoff berth.
SPSL SOUTH
Postseason berths: Four, plus No. 5 seed advances to a play-in game
Clinched: Federal Way, Bethel, Puyallup and Graham-Kapowsin
Lowdown: The top four seeds, in order, are: Federal Way, Bethel, Puyallup and Graham-Kapowsin. Curtis and Rogers are eligible for the fifth seed, which will meet the SPSL North’s No. 5 in a play-in game Nov. 2.
If Curtis beats Beamer this week, the Vikings are in. Rogers must defeat Puyallup and have Beamer beat Curtis for the Rams to qualify.
NARROWS LEAGUE 4A
Postseason berths: Four
Clinched: Bellarmine Prep, Olympia and Gig Harbor
Lowdown: Bellarmine Prep, Olympia and Gig Harbor are the 1-2-3 seeds. The fourth seed will be the winner of this week’s South Kitsap-Central Kitsap game.
SPSL 3A
Postseason berths: Three
Clinched: Lakes and Peninsula
Lowdown: Lakes is the No. 1 seed and Peninsula is the No. 2 seed. If it beats Decatur, Auburn Mountainview will clinch the third seed. Bonney Lake can grab the third seed if it beats Lakes and Auburn Mountainview loses to Decatur.
NARROWS 3A
Postseason berths: Three
Clinched: Capital, Lincoln and Timberline
Lowdown: If Capital beats Lincoln this week, the seeding, in order, is Capital, Timberline and Lincoln. If Lincoln beats Capital and Timberline beats Foss, Lincoln, Capital and Timberline will tie for first. The tiebreaker will be point differential.
SPSL 2A
Postseason berths: Four
Lowdown: Franklin Pierce and White River are tied for first – both have secured berths to the Week 10 state play-in round. Since Franklin Pierce beat White River, the Cardinals can lock up the No. 1 seed with a win over Washington this week.
This league has been unpredictable over the past two seasons, so it’s anyone’s guess how the final standings will look. If there are no upsets this week, Franklin Pierce, White River, Steilacoom and Eatonville will advance to the postseason.
EVERGREEN CONFERENCE
Postseason berths: Three
Lowdown: Tumwater, the Evergreen Conference champion, has secured the No. 1 seed and state playoff berth. The Thunderbirds will not play in Week 10. The league’s second seed to the Week 10 state play-in round will go to the winner of this week’s Chehalis-North Thurston game, while the loser gets the third seed.
NISQUALLY LEAGUE
Postseason berths: Four
Lowdown: The Nisqually League champion earns an automatic berth to the first round of the state playoffs, and the next three teams will face Northwest District schools in state play-in games.
Cascade Christian can secure the No. 1 seed with a win this week against Orting.
The Charles Wright Academy-Life Christian game also has major postseason implications.
If Orting, Life Christian and Cedar Park Christian are victorious this week, a five-way tie for first among Cascade Christian, Charles Wright, Cedar Park Christian, Life Christian and Orting would occur.
