A 22-year-old man has pleaded guilty to causing a wreck that killed his passenger last year in Spanaway.
Leroy E. Johnson faces two years, seven months to three years, five months in prison when sentenced Dec. 9.
Johnson pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of vehicular homicide for the Aug. 7, 2010, crash that killed 21-year-old Samuel Rees Powell.
Prosecutors said Johnson’s car ran a red light at 224th Street East and 46th Avenue East and hit a minivan. Powell, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown through the windshield of Johnson’s car and died, court records state.
Investigators found an open case of beer in Johnson’s car and empty beer cans on the floorboards. His blood-alcohol level was 0.10. The legal limit for drivers in Washington is 0.08.
