HUSKIES' OPPONENT THIS WEEK

OREGON STATE (2-8 OVERALL, 2-5 PACIFIC-12)
12:30 p.m. Saturday, Reser Stadium; TV:
Root Sports Radio: 850-AM/102.9-FM

Coach: Mike Riley (71-62 in his 11th season)

Against the Huskies: The Beavers trail in the all-time series 33-58-4. A year ago, Washington outlasted the OSU, 35-34, in double overtime at Husky Stadium.

Washington connections: Oregon State has 14 players from Washington, including several from the South Sound. TE Joe Halahuni of Orting, DE Scott Crichton from Foss and WR Geno Munoz out of Mount Tahoma were News Tribune All-Area players. Former Curtis LB Charlie Gilmur is also on the team along with TE Kellen Clute (Spokane/Mt. Spokane), OL Grant Enger (Seattle/O’Dea), WR Kramer Ferrell (Ellensburg) WR Garett Hall (Olympia), TE Connor Hamlett (Edmonds/Meadowdale), P Johnny Hekker (Bothell), OL Colin Kelly (Kelso), S Anthony Watkins (Burien/Highline), CB Brian Watkins (Burien/Highline) and OL Jake Welch (Longview/Mark Morris).

Scouting report: OSU has been banged up on the defensive line, and running back Malcolm Agnew, slash back James Rodgers and TE Halahuni have all missed games. Riley surprised many by benching last year’s starting quarterback Ryan Katz and deciding to go with redshirt freshman Sean Mannion. Mannion has thrown 15 interceptions, and his efficiency rating (123.5) is ninth in the conference. Speedy receiver Markus Wheaton has caught 64 passes for 822 yards. Freshman defensive end Crichton is third in the Pac-12 in tackles for loss with 10.5

Did you know: Oregon State has played a school-record 10 true freshmen to this season.
