Two Federal Way police officers shot and wounded a 33-year-old man early Tuesday while on a domestic violence call.
The man was shot in the leg and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment, police said.
Neither officer was hurt. Both were placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure when officers use deadly force. Their names were not released.
The shooting occurred after officers were called to an apartment in the 31700 block of 50th Lane Southwest about 2:40 a.m., police said. They were told a man involved in a domestic violence fight with his roommate had left through a back window.
While searching the area, an officer was confronted by a man.
“The suspect acted irrational, making animal-type sounds, and charged the officer,” police said in a statement. “The officer, in fear for his life, drew his firearm and fired multiple shots.”
A second officer also fired his gun.
The man likely will face charges for fourth-degree assault and felony assault when released from the hospital, police said.
Renton police are investigating the shooting.
