Missouri's English leads rout of Cal, 92-53; Duke outlasts Michigan, 82-75

Marcus Denmon added 18 points and was the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Matt Pressey had 13 points and Michael Dixon finished with 11 for the Tigers (5-0).

Missouri built a 45-26 lead by halftime and the outcome was never in doubt over the final 20 minutes, with coach Frank Haith pulling his starters with a few minutes left in the game.

Jorge Gutierrez scored 11 points to lead Cal (4-1), but fouled out with 11:12 remaining. Richard Solomon also fouled out with more than seven minutes left and finished with nine points.

The Tigers used relentless man-to-man, half-court pressure to force the guard-oriented Golden Bears into a plethora of early turnovers, and the result was a lot of easy points.

At No. 1 North Carolina, Tennessee Sate 69: Reggie Bullock scored a career-high 23 points and Kendall Marshall had 15 assists to help the Tar Heels (4-0) beat the Tigers (2-3).

No. 6 Duke 82, No. 15 Michigan 75: Austin Rivers scored 20 points, Seth Curry and Ryan Kelly had 17 each and the Blue Devils (6-0) shot its way into another Maui Invitational championship game in Lahaina, Hawaii, with a victory over the Wolverines (4-1).

At No. 7 Louisville 54, Arkansas State 27: Kyle Kuric scored 12 points and the Cardinals (4-0) beat the turnover-prone Red Wolves (1-4) in the lowest-scoring game for Arkansas State since the shot clock was implemented in 1986.

No. 8 Memphis 99, Tennessee 97 (2OT): Will Barton had 25 points and 11 rebounds, younger brother Antonio Barton hit a big jumper in the second overtime and the Tigers (2-1) beat the Volunteers (2-2) in the Maui Invitational.

At No. 9 Baylor 70, South Carolina State 50: Anthony Jones scored a career-high 21 points, including two 3-pointers in the opening stretch of the second half when ninth-ranked the Bears (4-0) took control on the way to a victory over the Bulldogs (2-2).

At No. 11 Wisconsin 77, University of Missouri-Kansas City 31: Jared Berggren scored a career-high 21 points and the Badgers (4-0) again used a suffocating defense to beat the Kangaroos (1-4).

No. 14 Kansas 72, UCLA 56: Elijah Johnson scored 23 points and the Jayhawks (3-1) nearly blew all of a 20-point lead before pulling away for a win over the Bruins in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational.

UCLA (1-3) got off to a brutal start and rallied to trim a 20-point lead down to five before running out of steam.

Tyler Lamb had 15 points and Jerime Anderson added 14 for the Bruins.

At No. 17 Pittsburgh 73, La Salle 69: Nasir Robinson scored 17 points and the Panthers clamped down on defense in the final minutes to put away the Explorers (2-2).

Ashton Gibbs added 14 points for the Panthers (3-1) while Travon Woodall had 12 points, 10 assists and a pivotal block in the waning seconds.

LOCAL COLLEGES

Seattle University 85, at Montana State 73: Federal Way’s Aaron Broussard scored 23 points to lead the Redhawks (1-2) over the Bobcats (2-2).

WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

Northwestern 44, At No. 20 LSU 43: Morgan Jones made two free throws with 11 seconds left to give the Wildcats a 44-43 victory over the Tigers (3-2).sance missed a 3-pointer with 2 seconds to play.

Brittany Orban scored 13 points to lead Northwestern (4-0).
