Time to get your Thanksgiving fill of small-college basketball in South Sound.
Starting Friday, the Pacific Lutheran men will host Puget Sound, The Evergreen State College and Wisconsin-River Falls for two days in the inaugural PLU Thanksgiving Classic at Olson Auditorium.
The teams:
• Evergreen (0-7) is without two-time NAIA All-America Nate Menefee, who used up his eligibility, and has been decimated by early-season injuries. Forward Marice Tolliver, out of Mount Tahoma High School, is the Geoducks’ top scorer.
• PLU (2-0) won its two games at the UPS Tipoff Classic last weekend at Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma. Guard James Conti and forward Cameron Schilling, both returning starters, were named to the all-tournament squad.
• UPS (3-0) is led by all-Northwest Conference forward Kaleb Shelton and center Anthony Gittens, who was named the most valuable player at last weekend’s UPS Tipoff Classic.
• Wisconsin-River Falls (2-1), of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, has one of the top players in the country in guard Shane Manor, who was named a preseason All-America candidate.
Friday’s schedule is UPS-Evergreen at 4 p.m., the PLU women taking on St. Joseph’s (N.Y) at 6 p.m. and PLU against Wisconsin-River Falls at 8 p.m.
Saturday’s schedule is PLU-Evergreen at 2 p.m., and UPS-Wisconsin-River Falls at 4 p.m.
