A pedestrian was hit and killed Sunday night after he ran in front of a car on South Hill, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

The man was struck shortly after 10:40 p.m. in the 9500 block of 176th Street East. It wasn’t immediately clear why he ran in front of traffic, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The driver remained at the scene and was interviewed. Troyer said he showed no signs of impairment and was not cited at the scene.

The pedestrian’s name was not released because his family had not been notified of his death.
