RIVERS

Cowlitz: People are catching mostly salmon at the barrier dam and steelhead around Blue Creek. The steelhead catch is increasing, said a state report.

Kalama: Bank anglers are catching some coho and steelhead, but most of the coho are dark. The steelhead being caught are a mixture of bright and dark fish.

Lewis: The fishing has been on and off for salmon and steelhead. Some chinook are still being caught, said a state report.

Minter: Most of the fish being caught now are dark, according to angler reports. People are catching a few bright fish. Still, there are plenty of fish in the creek.

Nisqually: A few bright chum are being caught, but the action is not hot. People are drifting corkies and yarn through the slower pools where the salmon are holding.

Puyallup: Some chum salmon are being caught in the lower river. Try around the soccer fields. The river is running well below normal for this time of year.

Skookumchuck: An angler at Gamefishin.com reported some dark coho being caught. The river is still muddy, but flows are on the decline.

Tilton: Last week, 474 coho adults, 25 jacks, 48 fall chinook adults, four jacks and three cutthroat trout were released into the river at Gus Backstrom Park in Morton.

Yakima: Try streamers in the morning and then switch to nymphs in the afternoon, said a staffer at Red’s Fly Shop. The trick has been to find pockets of fish and then work those pockets for as long as you can.

LAKES

Mayfield: The lake has been a decent option for people looking to catch some trout from the docks. Use a bobber and worm or bobber and cocktail shrimp, Fish Country’s Marshall Borsom said.

Pass: Fish bloodworm flies close to the bottom and watch for subtle takes.

Rufus Woods: The triploid rainbow trout are willing to bite. Try rainbow colored dough bait fished off the bottom near the lower pens, said Anton Jones of Darrell and Dad’s Family Guide Service.

SALTWATER

Beaches: Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks beaches will open for a razor clam dig at noon Saturday. No digging allowed before noon.

North Sound: State creel checks show the best salmon fishing has been in the Friday Harbor area. Jigging for squid has been fair to good off the Edmonds Pier, said Mike Chamberlain at Ted’s Sports Center.

South Sound: The salmon fishing has been on the slow side, said a staffer at Point Defiance Boathouse. The crab fishing has been good in Tacoma waters. Squid fishing has been fair to good.
