Yes, Christmas shopping costs money. But three local holiday fairs Saturday at Freighthouse Square, the Stadium District and the Tacoma Waldorf School offer many fun, free activities for kids in and around the shopping madness.
• At Freighthouse Square, there’ll be free photos with Santa, a kids’ holiday craft station, the Wonderland holiday train, and the big kiddie draw at Freighthouse: the Lego display store. There also is a holiday bazaar and a toy drive. Noon-4 p.m. Saturday. Rainier Room at Freighthouse Square, 2501 E. D St., Tacoma. Call 253-266-8898 or go to freighthousesquare.com.
• At the Waldorf School, the annual Winter Faire reflects the school’s emphasis on creativity and imagination, offering crafts, storytelling, a visit from St. Nicholas and a puppet show, plus local vendors. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Tacoma Waldorf School, 2710 N. Madison St., Tacoma. Call 253-383-8711 or go to tacomawaldorf.org.
• Don’t forget about the Dickens Festival in the Stadium District from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. In its seventh year, the festival spans Tacoma Avenue from Division Street down to the beginning of St. Helens Avenue, offering performances in various venues (music, puppets, storytelling, dance, magicians) plus horse and carriage rides, costume contests and more.
