Volunteer organizers of Toys for Tots, Pierce County’s annual Christmas toy giveaway, will hold two collection events today in Tacoma.
People who want to donate new toys for needy kids can take them either to the Varsity Grill restaurant at 1114 Broadway in downtown Tacoma or to the Amvets’ Hall at 5717 Tyler St.
Santa plus assorted elves will be on hand for photos and fun from noon-7 p.m. at the Varsity Grill and from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Amvets’ Hall.
Sponsored by Pierce County Crime Stoppers, KIRO TV and the Marine Corps League, the annual drive accepts donated toys and distributes them to low-income children, foster children and families in Tacoma and Pierce County.
“We’ll take anything,” coordinator Ed Troyer said Thursday, “but what we really need are gifts for girls between the ages of 12 and 17. We’ve collected 28,000 toys so far, but we have absolutely nothing for them.”
