The Bonneville Power Administration is offering up to a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of thieves who broke into a Tacoma substation and stole 25 feet of copper wire.
BPA officials discovered the theft from Surprise Lake facility at 712 Fife Way late last week, the agency said Thursday. Someone cut a hole in the fence to gain access.
“Thieves are endangering their lives and the safety of our employees,” said Kevin West, BPA physical security specialist. “The culprits are not only damaging the electrical infrastructure that keeps our lights on, but they’re also forcing electric ratepayers to cover the costs of this kind of senseless damage and theft.”
People with information on the thefts can call BPA’s confidential hot line at 800-437-2744 or Milton police officer Kevin Williams at 253-922-8735.
