SANTA CLARA (5-2) AT WASHINGTON STATE (5-4)
1 p.m., Beasley Coliseum, Pullman
TV: None. Radio: 770-AM.
Series: Washington State leads, 3-0. WSU won last season, 85-79 in overtime, at Santa Clara, Calif.
Statistical leaders: For Santa Clara: Kevin Foster, 17.4 ppg; Niyi Harrison, 6.7 rpg; Evan Roquemore, 6.0 apg. For Washington State: Faisal Aden, 16.3 ppg; Brock Motum, 6.8 rpg; Reggie Moore, 5.7 apg.
Scouting report: The Broncos rely heavily on 3-pointers, and the backcourt duo of Foster and Roquemore (16.1) can be deadly from beyond the arc. Foster, early in his junior season, has already shattered the school record for career 3-pointers set by current NBA star Steve Nash. Foster is hitting 31 percent from long range this season, but he led NCAA Division I with 3.68 treys made per game last season. Roquemore is draining 51 percent of his 3s (20 of 39). The Broncos are shooting 40 percent from the floor, compared to 47 percent for WSU. The Cougars are holding opponents to 40 percent shooting, but the Santa Clara defense is even better at 37 percent. The Cougars have won a season-high three straight games even though Aden may miss a third straight game with a concussion. WSU has just three games left before opening Pacific-12 Conference play Dec. 29 against Oregon.
Next: vs. Western Oregon, 4:35 p.m. Dec. 18, Pullman (no TV).
