Grose construction of Morton is working along side the 12100 block of state Route 302 on the Key Peninsula, harvesting fir trees for use in commercial, residential construction and for other wood products uses.
The area of land has attracted quite a bit of attention and concerns from passing motorists worried about large residential or commercial construction on the site.
Grose Construction Foreman Randy Huffman said Tuesday the trees are being harvested for use and will soon after be replaced by new fir trees that will eventually fill in the voids left by the older harvested pines.
The practice is a normal and healthy way to ensure healthy growth of the trees.
