The Puyallup Vikings’ girls bowling team delivered against one of its fiercest rivals last Thursday as they swept the Rogers Rams 4-0 at Daffodil Bowl in Puyallup.

Longtime Puyallup head coach Anne Carpenter said her team enjoys the competitive friendly rivalry with Rogers.

“It is always good to beat the team on the hill,” Carpenter said. “They are all great kids out here on both teams. It doesn’t matter where they go to school. They all have got good friendships.

“Nobody gets down on anybody,” she added. “It’s just a lot of fun. I always want both teams to bowl well.”

Vikings senior bowler Jacqui Binam said she particularly looks forward to matches against Rogers.

“It was back and forth,” she said. “I wasn’t too sure sometimes if we would win. I expected for us to beat them, and we got the win.

“It’s always a blast going against Rogers,” Binam added. “They are our rival. When we play against Rogers in bowling, it’s the same way I feel when we play them in football. I get excited for it.”

Carpenter said she was impressed with the performances from Binam and Carlie Butcher, both of whom knocked down a total of 317 pins in the first two games.

“Jacqui and Carlie did really well today,” Carpenter said. “I was very pleased. They’re both coming right a long and are doing just great.”

Rogers head coach Justin Wisness said his team played well despite having three bowlers out of the starting lineup.

“We didn’t bowl up to our averages, but we had some girls bowling in varsity matches for the first time,” Wisness said. “It was a good experience for them.

“We had one senior in the starting lineup tonight, and the rest were sophomores,” he added. “Our younger bowlers had an opportunity to bowl against a pretty experienced Puyallup bowling team.”
