Ranger-guided snowshoe walks will begin Saturday at Paradise. The treks are a chance to learn how to snowshoe while discovering how plants, animals and people adapt to challenging winter conditions at Mount Rainier National Park.
Walks start at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. through Jan. 2 and then weekends and holidays through March. The trip covers about 11/2 miles in two hours.
The group is limited to 25 people, ages 8 and older, on a first-come, first-served basis. A sign-up sheet is available at the Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center information desk one hour before each walk. All participants must be present at sign-up.
Snowshoes are provided by the park for those attending the ranger-guided snowshoe walks, and only for the duration of the walk. A $4 donation from each snowshoe walk participant helps the park provide the program and repair and replace snowshoes. Rental snowshoes also are available at the Longmire General Store.
