The Steilacoom ferry terminal will close for four months starting the evening of Jan. 3 for renovations, Pierce County announced Friday.

Passengers can purchase tickets starting Jan. 4 at the temporary ticketing facility across from the terminal or online at www.piercecountywa.org/ferry.

The 64-car boat, one of three recently built to join a fleet that's part of the Washington State Ferries system, will be open for public inspection from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Port Townsend ferry terminal.

Constructed at a cost of $60 million, the 273-foot-long ferry will be making runs from Port Townsend to Coupeville on Whidbey Island on a schedule to begin in mid-January. It replaces a 65-year-old ferry named Rhododendron.

Bob Ferris resigns from RE Sources top post

Bob Ferris resigns from RE Sources top post

BELLINGHAM - Bob Ferris, executive director of RE Sources for Sustainable Communities, is stepping down from his post.

In an announcement on the local environmental group's website, board president Ken Bronstein said Ferris "has chosen to leave the organization and pursue other opportunities."

"We will miss Bob, and wish him the very best in his future pursuits," Bronstein's announcement added.
