The smallest person in the Puyallup Vikings’ wrestling room has an unfinished goal.
Chad Kibler, a 106-pound wrestler, finished just one match shy of reaching the Mat Classic state tournament last year, and he’s determined not to let it elude him in his senior year.
So far, Kibler is 12-3 overall.
At the regional tournament last season, Kibler’s season ended with a two-point loss on a decision.
“This year, I want to just make it to the Tacoma Dome,” he said of the 16-man state bracket. “I would like to place there (finish in the top eight), but just making it would be great.”
The Herald recently asked Kibler a few questions about his life away from the mat.
The Herald: What is your favorite movie of all time?
Chad Kibler: “Top Gun.” The fighter pilots, jets and planes are pretty cool.
TH: Where do you see yourself in five years?
CK: I’m going to school to be an air traffic controller. That is what I’m hoping to become in the future.
TH: What is your favorite restaurant in Puyallup?
CK: I like Trackside Pizza. I like their pizza. It is really good.
TH: What is something unique about you that nobody would know?
CK: I have wrestled at the same weight for the past four years.
TH: If you could pick one person to go to dinner with, who would it be?
CK: Ken Griffey Jr. He was my idol growing up.
TH: Who is your pick to win the Super Bowl this year?
CK: The Green Bay Packers. They’ve had the best season of anyone this year and have won the most games.
TH: What will you miss the most about Puyallup High School after you graduate this June?
CK: I will miss being with all of the team members on the wrestling team.
