King said he understands people’s desires to visit the park again, but managers wanted to give staffers adequate time to deal with their feelings following Sunday’s shooting death of law enforcement ranger Margaret Anderson.
The Transportation Department has reopened Chinook Pass.
National parks across the country are celebrating National Parks Week, April 20-28, by waiving entrance fees from April 22 through 26, and some parks are even providing other events.
The snow play area at Paradise did not open Friday as scheduled. When it will open depends on how quickly Mount Rainier National Park crews can groom the runs.
MeadoWatch, a citizen science program run by the University of Washington biology department, is recruiting volunteers to help monitor wildflowers at Mount Rainier National Park. The group is looking for about 50 people who enjoy hiking and viewing alpine wildflowers.
