MINT-SPIRATION

How creative can you get with an Altoids tin? That’s a challenge that will be explored by artists participating in “An Altoid Tinstallation!” You’ll be amazed by what is being done within these little mint tins by artists from Art Source Gallery (1015 W. Main St.), BOSCO (an artist organization that promotes interaction between artists and viewers) and Treasure Valley Institute for Children’s Arts.

The sale at Art Source Gallery will go on throughout January. The tins sell for $20 each, with 100 percent of the proceeds going back to the donating group. The opening reception is from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday with music by Dan Costello and wine from Indian Creek Winery. ArtSourceGallery.com.

KERRI WEBSTER AT BAM

This month’s Boise Art Museum Art Talk is a little outside the box as award-winning poet Kerri Webster reads from her work, inspired by the museum’s “Open to Interpretation,” culled from the museum’s permanent collection accrued over its 75 years. A Boise State and Iowa Writer’s Workshop graduate, Webster is a current Whiting Foundation fellow and a Writer in the Schools through The Cabin. 5:30 p.m. at the Boise Art Museum, 670 Julia Davis Drive. Free admission all day.

PATCASSO

Watch painter Patrick Hunter create a work of art right before your eyes to music at The District Coffeehouse, 110 S. 5th St. Hunter is a one-man art movement called Patcasso who paints with flair and fuses visual art with music and entertainment. He’ll work from 5 to 7 p.m. and have work on display throughout the event.

MEXICAN HISTORY AND FOLKLORICO

Celebrate the opening of the new photography exhibit “The Casasola Archives: The Mexican Revolution and Beyond” at the Idaho Historical Museum, 610 Julia Davis Drive, with the beauty of traditional Mexican folk dance from Treasure Valley’s Ballet Folklorico.

Agustín Víctor Casasola’s photographs captured the daily lives of the Mexican people during the decade-long civil war that began with an uprising against Porfirio Diaz in 1910.

Ballet Folklorico celebrates the life and traditions of each of Mexico’s regions from Jalisco to Guerrero with colorful costumes and whirling energy. The group will perform at 6:15 and 7 p.m. Thursday. Admission is by donation from 5 to 9 p.m. The traveling exhibit will be on display until Jan 14.
