Meridian police are looking for whoever robbed a Subway sandwich shop at 1789 Franklin Road just before 8 a.m. Thursday and are trying to figure out if it was the same person who robbed a different Subway shop the night before.
A man walked into the Franklin Road Subway at 7:51 a.m. Thursday, showed a clerk a handgun, demanded the clerk hand over a bag full of cash, and took it before walking out. The clerk was not hurt.
The robber was seen driving away in a 1970s era blue Ford pickup truck.
In the earlier robbery, a masked man walked into the Subway in the 1600 block of Main Street just before 10 p.m. Wednesday and took a clerks wallet, cell phone and an undisclosed amount of cash. That robber did not show or say anything about a handgun but did threaten to stab the clerk, according to reports.
That clerk told police he ran after the robber but had to stop after robber attacked him with pepper spray, Meridian Police Lt. Scott Colaianni said.
The clerk was not badly injured during the holdup but paramedics did have to treat him for the pepper spray, according to reports.
We encourage that any time something like this happens they just cooperate and not chase the suspect, Colaianni said. It is not worth getting hurt over.
The man in the Wednesday night robbery is described as a light-skinned, in his 20s, about 5-feet-10-inches tall with a medium build wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a mask over his face.
The man who robbed the Subway Thursday morning is described as being light-skinned and in his mid 20s, with facial hair that looked about a week old. He was about 5 feet 7 inches tall wearing a red T-shirt, a blue flannel jacket with a wool lining, blue jeans, and black winter hat. Police say he pulled his jacket up over the bottom of his face to help disguise his appearance.
Anyone with information on either robbery should contact Ada County non-emergency dispatch at 377-6790, Meridian Police at 888-6678 or Crime Stoppers at 343-2677.
