Crystal offers deals on lessons this month

Crystal Mountain Resort is offering discounts in January to encourage new skiers and snowboarders to hit the slopes as part of a nationwide initiative with the National Ski Areas Association.

Crystal Mountain Resort is offering discounts in January to encourage new skiers and snowboarders to hit the slopes as part of a nationwide initiative with the National Ski Areas Association.

The First Time Lesson package will be $79, regularly $89, and includes a five-hour group lesson, Discovery lift ticket and equipment rental.

Learn to Ski 1-2-3 package will be $175, regularly $185. It includes three days of skiing or snowboarding instruction, lift tickets and rentals. The first day includes a five-hour group lesson, Discovery lift ticket and equipment rental. Days two and three are 21/2-hour afternoon lessons, all-mountain lift tickets and equipment rentals.

These special rates are valid any day in January for both skiers and snowboarders.

    Hilltop Alpine Race Team, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Hilltop Chalet at Hilltop Ski Area, 7014 Abbott Road. A competitive ski team that will be racing in the Youth Ski League against other youth ski teams from the Anchorage area. This program is for ages 7-13, who are intermediate to advanced skiers. Program includes: professional coaching by experienced racers, pre-season dryland training, running gates, video analysis of students skiing, 3-hour pratices twice a week.     Beginning Adult Classic Ski Lessons, 6:30-8 p.m., Kincaid Outdoor Center, 9401 Raspberry Road and Russian Jack Springs Park/Selkregg Chalet, 1600 Lidia Selkregg Lane. Beginning students will learn to diagonal stride, stop, turn, use poles, climb hills and move over varied terrain. Other topics discussed include appropriate clothing, equipment and waxing for conditions. This class is taught as a four lesson series. $
