EVERETT - A 31-year-old Bellingham man faces charges of car theft and felony eluding after leading Snohomish County sheriff deputies on a high-speed chase on Interstate 5 Tuesday morning, Jan. 10.
Snohomish deputies saw a stolen 2001 Lexus near 41st Street and I-5 in Everett Tuesday morning, but when they tried to stop the car the driver sped away on southbound I-5, said Chief Kevin Prentiss.
The driver reached speeds of 90 mph and, just north of the Highway 526 exit, swerved across the southbound lanes and struck a guardrail. The car then exited the freeway, but in trying to turn onto Highway 526 the driver lost control and spun out, and deputies arrested the driver and passenger.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's office has not identified the man, who was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding police. The driver also had felony warrants for his arrest, Prentiss said.
The female passenger was interviewed by deputies and released. No one was hurt in the pursuit and no other vehicles were damaged.
