Longtime Washington State assistant coach Mike Levenseller has been hired by Idaho, FootballScoop.com reported Wednesday.
The Vandals denied anyone has been hired. Levenseller was known to be talking with the Vandals, who have an opening for an offensive coordinator.
Levenseller was offensive coordinator and/or wide receivers coach at WSU from 1992-2011, including time on the same staff as current Idaho coach Robb Akey. New Cougars coach Mike Leach did not retain any of WSU’s full-time assistant coaches.
Levenseller was born in Bremerton, and was a star receiver at Curtis High and WSU. He is a member of the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame.
Meanwhile, Jeff Choate, special-teams coach at Boise State the past six years, has joined Leach’s staff, likely as linebackers coach.

JUDGE WANTS EX-IRISH ASSISTANT EXAMINED
A psychiatrist and a psychologist will examine former Notre Dame assistant coach Corwin Brown to determine his mental status as he faces charges of striking his wife and holding her hostage in their home, a judge in South Bend, Ind., said.
Corwin Brown’s family has said they think his actions Aug. 12 that led to a seven-hour standoff with police at his home in Granger, northeast of South Bend, might stem from brain trauma he suffered when he was an NFL defensive back. He played for a total of eight seasons with the New England Patriots, the New York Jets and Detroit Lions.
Brown, 41, who is accused of bruising his wife and holding her hostage with a handgun, is charged with domestic battery and two counts of confinement.
NO NEWTON LOOPHOLE
The NCAA has broadened the definition of agents to include parents, closing the loophole that allowed 2010 Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton to keep playing for national champion Auburn despite his father’s pay-for-play scheme.
The NCAA determined that Cecil Newton – Cam’s father – wanted money from Mississippi State when Cam Newton was being recruited out of junior college.
Cam Newton was reinstated after a one-day suspension because the NCAA ruled he didn’t know about it.
