E-Cycle reports more electronics recycling

Statewide electronic waste recycling reached 42.19 million pounds in 2011, a 6.9 percent increase over the previous year, according to a news release.

Statewide electronic waste recycling reached 42.19 million pounds in 2011, a 6.9 percent increase over the previous year, according to a news release.

The program, which began in 2009. provides for safe disposal and recycling of unwanted televisions, monitors and computers at designated sites in each county.

The E-Cycle Washington program, which is financed by electronics manufacturers, totaled 6.2 pounds per capita. Totals for 2011 include Thurston County, 1.83 million pounds; Pierce County, 4.3 million pounds; and Mason County, 117,212 pounds.
