JUNEAU -- An Anchorage lawmaker plans to introduce legislation that would provide tax credits to Alaska businesses that hire military veterans.
Sen. Bill Wielechowski called the proposal a winning proposition both for struggling businesses and for veterans, who would have an increased chance of finding work, he said. He said veterans are proven leaders with solid work ethics. Statistics show higher than average unemployment rates among veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Wielechowski's office said in a release that the measure would provide a $2,000 tax credit for each veteran hired who works at least 1,560 hours within a year, or roughly 30 hours a week.
