Boise State University Day of Greatness: Poster-making begins at 9 a.m. Monday in the Hatch Ballroom, followed by a march down Capitol Boulevard at 11 a.m. and a rally on the Statehouse steps. Afterward, participants will return to the Student Union, where several nonprofit organizations will provide volunteer opportunities.
King Day Celebration: Marilyn Shuler, speaker: Shuler, former director of the Idaho Human Rights Commission and co-founder of the Idaho Human Rights Education Center, will speak at noon Monday in the Capitol Rotunda. The celebration includes a trumpet fanfare by Marcellus Brown and Boise State University students, a color guard presentation by Farmway Village Girl Scout Troop 457 of Caldwell, the Red River Singers, the Common Ground Community Chorus and more.
Human Rights Celebration, Welcome to Boise Dinner: Local organizations including the Idaho Human Rights Education Center, the Islamic Center of Boise, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and others host a celebration to honor and welcome newly arrived refugees to the Treasure Valley. “Jim Crow, Idaho, and the Economics of Racism”: Presented by The Idaho Black History Museum with Boise State University associate professor Jill Gill, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 24, Barnwell Room, Boise Student Union Building. Gill will provide historical context focused on the 20th and 21st centuries, followed by a panel discussion with Idahoans who experienced the Jim Crowe era firsthand. The event corresponds with the Idaho Black History Museum’s Jim Crow exhibit, which runs through January.
