A drug suspect who ran away after a police officer fatally shot the suspect’s companion in Federal Way was arrested Friday night, Auburn police said Saturday.
Auburn detectives tracked the man to Des Moines between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Friday and arrested him on suspicion of felony eluding and drug possession, according to Cmdr. Mike Hirman.
The suspect was jailed several hours after the 1 p.m. Friday shooting outside a strip mall across from Lakota Middle School, where a Federal Way police officer witnessed what she believed to be a drug deal. The officer approached two men in a black Infiniti sedan, according to police, and fired her weapon after the passenger reached under the seat and didn’t comply with her commands.
The car sped away, entered the Quail Run housing development and stopped in the 31900 block of 31st Place Southwest. One man fled on foot. They were both in their early 20s, Hirman said.
He said felony drugs were found in the car at the scene “in the amount of sales, not personal use.”
Vehicle records helped lead to the man’s capture.
“He was a co-registered owner on the car, and our detectives were in touch with his associates and family,” Hirman said.
Auburn police are handling the investigation, which continues, officials said Saturday.
