The Seattle Mariners have avoided arbitration with pitchers Jason Vargas, Brandon League and Shawn Kelley, signing all three to one-year contracts.
Vargas went 10-13 with a 4.25 earned run average for the Mariners in 2011. The 28-year-old left-hander tossed three shutouts while setting career-highs in wins, starts (32), strikeouts (131) and innings pitched (201).
League ranked third in the American League last season after recording 37 saves. He finished 2011 with a 1-5 record and a 2.79 ERA.
Kelley appeared in 10 games for Seattle last season after coming back from partial Tommy John surgery, which was performed on September 1, 2010.
