Most Tacoma Public Schools students didnt have to wake up this morning wondering whether the bad weather would mean a day off from class. They already had it off due to a previously scheduled teacher training day.
But three of the districts schools School of the Arts, the Science and Math Institute and Stewart Middle School are on different schedules and had class today despite the bad weather.
There was confusion among some SOTA, SAMI and Stewart parents because some TV and radio stations incorrectly reported classes were canceled in all Tacoma schools, said Dan Voelpel, district spokesman. He said the district posted the correct information on its website and social media platforms.
The district also sent a recorded phone message to staff members letting them know todays planned training day was still on, he said.
SOTA, SAMI and Stewart are innovative schools with block schedules different from others in the district, Voelpel said. Sometimes they have days off when the rest of the district doesnt, and vice-versa, he said.
